RE: WTF NINTENDO!!
I'm guessing this happened when you downloaded the update, right?
I suggest checking out the modchip's official site as they might have a fix for it. And if you got your Wii chipped locally whoever did it probably can unbrick it. Counter Strike 300 Read The Forum Rules Pwnem Veteran <- This explains what it is and how to become one. |

RE: WTF NINTENDO!!
I don't like the idea at all myself. If I did it and got bricked, I deserved it.

Deadpool Wrote:I don't like the idea at all myself. If I did it and got bricked, I deserved it. Agreed. But.. people like Jacko, who use it for homebrew, and don't take advantage of the easy piracy that's right in front of there faces, kinda don't deserve it, because they can't really go anywhere else for there homebrew fix.

RE: WTF NINTENDO!!
What Nintendo should do is take a similar approach to what Microsoft did with their XNA games subscription but at a cheaper price.
$100 is a bit steep for it, although if you're a game developer it may not be that much considering that if you are able to make a good game and then sell it on the marketplace you could make that money back in no time. I think something like $40 a year or so would be reasonable to get full homebrew access on your Wii. That's about the cost of a modchip and with full legal endorsement from the company. And I'm sure they could set up a system where it would be hard for homebrew to be exploited to allow piracy. The Wii is really the ideal homebrew console as creative and talented homebrew developers could utilize the motion controls to their full potential. RE: WTF NINTENDO!!
True to that point. But I would just make a console solely for the purposes of homebrewing.

RE: WTF NINTENDO!!
Well it would be a lot easier for them to just allow homebrew at a fee and monitor it so it doesn't aid piracy.
As if they made a homebrew-only Wii it wouldn't sell as well as people would prefer just to chip theirs to save money. As for consoles solely dedicated to homebrew, they exist. The GP2X is a good example, it's a handheld console that can run anything that the hardware allows. However, that's for another thread...I think I've mentioned it in the handhelds section a long time ago. RE: WTF NINTENDO!!
I still need to make a console and allow people to make games like they want. I wouldn't have a problem with it. But if they get sued, I would be responsible too.

RE: WTF NINTENDO!!
if u did im sure the gaming industry would have something to say as it would mean everyman and his dog would be making games and the market would be flooded meaning a market crash..... it almost happened in the 80's im sure thats why licencing came in.....(well least part of the reason) i think its better with the dedicated few making them...

RE: WTF NINTENDO!!
@ Deadpool, I don't see how you could get sued for that unless you supplied developers with copyrighted material. Also, the PC is essentially just that along with some other devices that most people aren't aware of.
@ jacko999, I don't see how there would be a market crash as a result of it. Plus not everyone is skilled enough to make a game, but there might be a conflict amongst the free/commercial developers. But like I previously mentioned the PC, in a way, is an open console where anyone can develop anything for it and do as they please with it assuming they aren't breaking any laws. There's plenty of free games out there and I don't see how they conflict with the paid ones. As for ensuring that commercial interests are protected, they could simply imply a file size cap on the games released in the homebrew field. WiiWare pretty much does this already. They have a cap on the file size of the game, therefore you probably won't ever see a WiiWare game that's as a large as a normal game (in terms of file size). I think XBLA has a similar cap as well..
