Sorry to revive a semi-dead thread but I just had to throw my two cents in.

I quit about 2 months ago and it was the best thing I ever did, personally. I rarely played any other games because with a tight student budget, I felt like I was wasting my money by having that monthly fee and not playing it. Once I quit, it was amazing how many really good games I burned though. I had no idea some of the stuff I was missing out on. If WoW was free, i'd still play it because the monthly fee guilt wouldn't be there. But with that fee, there's just too many other good games out there to pour so much into one.

As much as I enjoyed this game and the people I played with (I bear the knowledge of many 'foreign' sexual practices such as shrimping), playing this game was one of the worst things that happened to me. It basically sucked up all my free time for a year and a half, and I kept playing it even when all there was to do was PvP during the day (grrr Alliance kiddies....) and raid at night, which I didn't get into frequently because I quickly fell behind the cutting edge in terms of gear (new guild etc).

I quit for a few months and started to enjoy the rest of my life and then I got sucked back in for a couple of months. Sucked up the first half of the fall semester at school which disemboweled my grades. At least this time I still saw friends on a regular basis and actually ate three meals a day, not just dinner and possibly lunch if I felt like it. I'm amazingly glad I quit though, and just before my guild collapsed too since my guild leader got excessively greedy.

Like gage I started realizing all the good stuff I was missing out on, including games. It's kinda scary to think I might have missed out on Fallout 3 to fairies, elves and magic.

It boggles my mind how so many of you get sucked into so deep that you can't quit it. Meh, and thats why I still hate it.

If I were a conspirator, I'd say that the developers of World of Warcraft sold their souls to make it successful.

Yes I stole that theory from those people who claim a lot of music artists "sold their souls" for fame and success. Assuming that were true, the devs. of WoW have to overdose their way to their demise though..

@Deadpool, maybe you need to try it. I know what probably sucked me in the most was all the progress bars to fill up. All the faction reputation to grind up, that sort of thing. That and the sheer scope of the game, with so much to do.

Ahhh, doesn't quite sound like my cup of tea. I am more of a glory hog.
