While this browser was free when it first came out, it's now 500 Wii Points which is pretty much $5.

It's a fair price IMO. This browser can do most things the regular Opera browser can do, but there are limitations. The flash player is one of them. While the flash player isn't that old, you can't update it to the latest one (at the moment) which results in not being able to visit certain websites. The webpage will still load, but the flash content will not be shown.

As for navigation, it's pretty straight forward. You use the Wiimote as the mouse, type using the on screen keyboard OR a USB keyboard.

It's best to use a wireless keyboard though as the cable usually isn't that long..Anyway, if you're a YouTube fan you won't be disappointed as that site works great on the Wii. You can also watch full screen videos without a problem.

Aside from watching videos on YouTube you can also play flash games. Most games that use just a mouse will work without any problems. You can also check out WiiCade.com which has a handful of games that will definitely work.

There's also two ways of viewing a page. You can force it to fit on the screen or have it at it's real size and you'll be able to zoom in/out. The fit on the screen feature sometimes causing some conflicts in the way the page looks so it's not advisable to use it all the time.

Overall, there's some nice customization options available and it's pretty easy to navigate a page provided that you got used to using the Wiimote as a mouse. So for $5/500 points it's definitely worth it even if you have a fully functional browser as it's nice to view certain sites on a larger screen and if someone is using the PC you can still go online using the Wii.

I'll probably try out some useful sites on the Wii and see if they work a bit later and post the results here.

It is a good browser, but it has some turn offs for me. It doesn't look great on a tube tv. The sides get some whacked off, the typing can be very slow with the Wii mote. And It is hard to read some things unless you zoom in.
All in all it is worth the buy.

I heard BBC i player works well on the wii.

Well to fix the typing issue, just plug in a USB keyboard (wireless is better as it lets you type further away from the TV).

As for the zoom, press 2 on the Wiimote and in that mode the text should appear larger.

As for the BBC player, haven't tried it yet. I'll probably try that along with some other video sites and post the results soon.

I just prefer my computer over the Wii. I usually use the Wii for the more graphical based web pages.

Yeah, the Wii's browser is more of a novelty. However, it's definitely functional. And if you didn't own a PC or can't access it at the moment, it will get the job done for typical web surfing.

You could even use it as a word processor if you use http://docs.google.com once your done typing just e-mail to any PC and print. (I haven't tried that site yet though, but it should work).

Definitely. I think it just be installed software to be honest. Just like a pc comes with IE.
