Wii got sued!
And by Wii, I'm referring to Nintendo.

Hillcrest Laboratories sued them claiming that they used their motion-control inventions in the Wii.

Bloomberg Wrote:Hillcrest Laboratories Inc. seeks to block imports of the Wii and Wii remotes, according to a complaint filed today with the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington. Hillcrest also filed a civil suit in federal court in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Will Nintendo win? I think so, but even if they lose it definitely won't be the end of the Wii IMO. Also, this isn't the first time Wii got in trouble. Apparently the Virtual Console controller is at risk of getting banned as well due to a complaint from Anascape Ltd. of Tyler, Texas.

RE: Wii got sued!
Just a bunch of business ticked that they didn't think of it and trying to get money by lying that it was their idea.

RE: Wii got sued!
The thing is, why are they filing suit now instead of at the release?

RE: Wii got sued!
That is how you can tell when it is a bogus charge. You don't wait and let them make millions of dollars on your idea. Or in Nintendo's case, a few billion.
Completely fake.

RE: Wii got sued!
Gamer please post the actual full news i was mistaken this is new but their sueing over the motion sensing technology.

Quote:A firm called Hillcrest is looking to sue Nintendo in reference to a violation of some kind of patent related to handheld pointing devices. They are seeking a blockage of Wii sales in the US.

Hillcrest Labs today announced that they have filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission and a separate patent infringement suit in the U.S. District Court in Maryland against Nintendo over the Wii console. The patents in question deal with handheld pointing devices and a TV navigation interface display system. Hillcrest claims to have 29 patents in the area of pointing and motion-control technology for interacting with digital media on television.

and yes they lost the court battle against the wii remote

Quote:Fobis, the creators of the Weemote (a simple to use TV controller) has got their lawyers on the prowl - demanding any retailer which uses the term 'Wiimote' in reference to the Nintendo Wii to take it down as it allegedly infringes on their Weemote trademark. Online retailer Divineo.com forwarded us a copy of the legal letter and issued the following statement "Divineo immediatly reacted and removed the wiimote word. The new administration of the company wish to comply to any clear and well defined law."

RE: Wii got sued!
Fobis just seem to be nit-picking to get money, I like how they saw a loophole and attacked the retailers of the Wii Controller, and avoided conflict with Nintendo, and I'm suprised the get away with it, since the Wii controller isn't officially called "Wiimote".

Hey, Fobis! I bought a Wiimote, I hope you read this.

RE: Wii got sued!
Here's an update on the Hillcrest incident:

BaltimoreSun Wrote:Nintendo of America spokesman Charlie Scibetta said in a statement that "we have not been served with any lawsuit or other action by Hillcrest and therefore have no comment."

So either Hillcrest is bluffing OR they really did take action and big N is being silent for now.
