RE: Why SEGA stopped making game consoles?
That's a good question, and you'll probably find the answer in this article:
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn...i_n9605276

To sum it up, the DreamCast didn't produce much revenue for them, so they decided in order to stay in business rather than making consoles, it was better for them to make games for the other companies, in other words, they had to sell out in order to stay in business.

As for the DreamCast games, buy them online. As a matter of fact there are still new DreamCast games being made, but they are made by smaller companies and can only be purchased online unless your lucky enough to find it in a local store.

The games for the DreamCast are not odd, they are just a bit old now and most stores don't sell them anymore, especially local ones.

As for production, I doubt they still manufacture the games, well the old ones anyway, I believe the new games that come out are only made in Asia.

RE: Why SEGA stopped making game consoles?
actually the dreamcast in japan is still making games and pretty popular. and the reason then had so much trouble was because of the marketing and the dumb ppl who never realized how great sega was lol. but sega still makes stuff, in fact about a year ago they came out with a cell phone.

RE: Why SEGA stopped making game consoles?
Sega always had a great hold on the arcade industry. Well, back when the local arcade was the hang out anyway. Now, with the extreme popularity of in-home gaming systems I am sure that even that is suffering some.

I don't even see an arcade in my neighborhood. I have an arcade in the next town over at the mall called Pocket Change, but I only went their a couple times.
The best thing is having your own arcade machine at home.

Yeah Sega did have some good arcade titles, especially the House of the Dead series.

As for arcades losing their popularity, I haven't been to one in a while. However, I do see a couple of machines in the local stores. They have them there as a gimmick I guess..
