I agree about the free roaming games, most of them are good.

And even if there are some time restrictions, the free roaming part still keeps the game interesting.

State of Emergency is a good example. You have a time limit, but you can move about freely and even pick up almost any item.

• Multiplayer
• Good Story
• Creation (characters, weapons, ect...)
• Color, everyone loves color
• Time, if a game is made in a week it won't be good
• Open ending
• Tons of extras
  

Yeah extras are very important as they keep the game interesting, even after you beat it. As for multiplayer, that's another good thing, and the game should have both online/offline multiplayer.

Another thing that I don't think was previously mentioned is alternative endings, however this doesn't work for all games.

actually graphics and all that is what kills gameplay. too many games are focusing too much around graphics and story that it takes away from game play. games such as missile command, mario, sonic etc. they didnt have amazing graphics and all that, but they were fun to play. they were simple and easy to pick up and play. i could give a crap less if the game looks good, that has nothing to do with game play. example, rpgs such as final fantasy, yes they look great but the biggest rpg fan can admit... the game play is boring, they focus on the story.

I can see the story line relating to gameplay, but the graphics hardly contribute to it.

I mean obviously the game has to have some sort of decent graphics so you know what's going on..for example you should be able to distinguish the main character from the enemies as well as being able to distinguish water from sand etc., but at the same time you don't need it to have state of the art graphics and make it seem as real as you in order for the game to be good.

But it seems to me that for some people graphics does play a big role, however it's all in their head. I bet if they gave the game a chance they'd like it despite the fact the graphics resemble to that of let's say Sonic 1 :P

all im saying is i dont give a crap about graphic as long as the game is entertaining.

I think a good game needs to have some sense of choice, just being able to shoot bad guys is nic, but that is why some people hate Halo's campaign, it is a simple " do this, go here" type of gameplay, I didn't mind, but it showws my point, If you feel like you are on rails, it gets old, Games like Crackdown, and GTA, were about freedom, RPG's are famous for their choice of character, and Halo is strong in it's Forge and MP areas.
And about Bugs, like how you can survive a stick in Lost Planet by rolling, it makes a whole new layer of skill, and tactics.
