Is it just me..or does Water in games these days, just look like badly done CGI?

Oblivion's water looks like oil more than water, and Half Life 2's water looks out of place...or am i the only one who thinks this..

water is hard to do though just think of all teh reflections you have to do... it looks good in the pre rendered clips most of the time but to do it in realtime must take too much power im guessing

I guess so...


I personally think Super Mario Sunshine had some of the best water in any video game.

but that was ment to look cartoony not realistic so it doesnt really count... did look good though

Yeah, in the Oblivion, water was like ugly, lol.

But that's how it was back in the days... Hardly no plumbing system.

I don't even know why they bother with water in gaming. Almost all of the time, it's nothing more than

a) a nuisance
b) a gamble for 'graphical achievements'

thts true.... the water in gta 4 was good though and if your on a island u exect to come to water eventually...
