TV Show King Review
TV Show King
Platform: Wii (WiiWare)
Developer: Gameloft

TV Show King is a quiz game, based on 80's TV quiz show's, It defiantly pulls of the cheesy side of the 80's shows, but how well does it handle as a game, and what makes it so different from those other quiz DVD's that cost about the same price?

Graphics:

It's a quiz game, you really shouldn't be expecting jaw dropping visuals, as a whole I'd say the graphics are PS2 quality if anything. I don't expect a DVD quiz game would be any better, so TV Show King has at least something over a DVD version.

Music & Sound:

There's just the one main theme that plays nearly all the time, the other time is where the quiz tension music starts to play. The question music sounds a bit out of place, as the rest of the game is cheesy as hell, and this piece of music seems more fitting in "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire".

The Main theme fits well with the game's cheesy style and, even I'll admit, it is quite catchy.
The Voice for the presenter is annoying and again cheesy(I wonder how many more time's i'll use that word)but fits with the game's style, so all in all not a bad job.

Gameplay:

The game has 2 modes, The main quiz show, which can last from 3, 6 or 9 rounds, and has 3 different difficulty modes. You also have Quiz attack mode, which has you go against the quiz until you get one wrong answer, basically it's a high score mode.Another thing which TV Show King has over a DVD brother.

The questions range from science to Culture and even to Music and much much more. The game boasts over 3000 questions, which is quite impressive, The questions are quite tough, as for most of them you won't have a clue and just end up guessing. The game also throws a unique twist into the Quiz genre, which you won't find on any other Quiz game to date, the use of the wiimote, You have to use your wiimote as a light, or to scratch of sliver stuff that's covering the answers, at first they seem fun, but get boring fast.

The game also offers a bit of a risk take into the main quiz, where you can spin the wheel, where players can gain or lose cash, Simply put the wheel is a jerk and more times than most you will lose cash instead of gaining any.

Overall:

So I presume you've read this review because you like quiz games or are interested in Tv Show King, well ask yourself this, At xmas, when your family gets those DVD's quiz games out, do you play them alot or even once after xmas has gone? your answer is most likely No. The same apples for Tv Show King, however if you have friends round or just want the family to gather round and have some fun, than Tv Show King is the perfect game, No dad's moaning that they can't play mario Kart, no mom saying Halo is too rough. Everyone will like Tv Show King. But overall, it's not much different or any better from those dvd games.

Score:

7.4 Out of 10

RE: TV Show King Review
Great review, it covered exactly what I wanted to know about this game.

These types of games are also good for when you're bored with a couple of friends and don't feel like shooting things up or solving some puzzle to proceed to the next level. And as you said they appeal to almost everyone, so if you have some non-gamer guests over it can come in handy. As for what makes it stand out the most, it's probably what you mentioned about how you use the Wiimote as it adds that extra element to this worn out genre.

Personally, I have been addicted to this one.
You forgot to mention your Mii is your character on stage.
