Swords & Soldiers Interview
Fabian Akker the co-founder of Ronimo Games, who's currently working on an upcoming WiiWare title called Swords and Soldiers was kind enough to take the time to answer the following interview questions I asked:
How does Swords & Soldiers stand out when compared to the current WiiWare selection? Akker: Swords and Soldiers will be the first competitive RTS on WiiWare. Of course the colorful style of the game makes it also something unique. What games made from another company if any, inspired your company to create this game? Akker: The idea for Swords and Soldiers is based on the animated short: Super Moine. We thought it would combine great with an RTS kind of gameplay. Of course we play a lot of Starcraft and Warcraft so that would probably also count in our choice of making an RTS:). From my understanding there will be 3 factions competing against each other, the Vikings, the Aztecs, and the other is currently unannounced, why were these 2 confirmed factions chosen? Akker: We just thought it would be cool! Commanding a viking army to wipe out some aztecs is fun. I'm aware that your company has developed games for the PC and is of course working on the WiiWare platform. Does your company have any plans for developing games on the Xbox 360 platform or even the PS3 anytime soon? Akker: Not soon, but we like the other platforms as well. Bringing out games on WiiWare is at the moment our easiest way to get our games out there. In the future we definitely hope to bring out games on all platforms. According to your website, your company is based off The Netherlands, how does it feel to work for a game developing company from that area? Akker: The Netherlands is a small country, but a lot of cool companies are starting to sprout here. Publishers are noticing us and the government slowly starts to understand that game companies are the future and that they need support. We get a lot help from one of those government foundations which is the "Dutch Game Garden" they help us with everything you could need as a starting developer, we even got a very cool office through their help, so the games industry in the Netherlands is small but cozy! You can find out more about this upcoming WiiWare title over at the official Swords & Soldier website and you can check out the company's other cool games over at the official Ronimo Games website. Digg it! |

RE: Swords & Soldiers Interview
It's pretty cool you got an interview with these guys, and the game sounds fun.
I agree with Akker, Commanding a viking army to wipe out some Aztecs is fun. Not too traditional, not too radical |

RE: Swords & Soldiers Interview
Has there been a Viking concept for a game as of yet (disregarding the Norse mythology used in games) ?

RE: Swords & Soldiers Interview
There's been Viking- Battle for Asgard. From what I saw of it, God of War for Vikings.
Not too traditional, not too radical |

RE: Swords & Soldiers Interview
Yeah there was one for the 360 called Viking: Battle for Asgard but it got low ratings.
*EDIT* lol you beat me to it...I posted this about a minute after you :P Also, I've added a link to the Digg page for this article, so if you have a Digg account and liked it, please Digg it! Getting back to this upcoming WiiWare game, I'm looking forward to playing an RTS on my Wii. Plus who doesn't like being an Aztec/Viking? |

RE: Swords & Soldiers Interview
Wow, I applaud the fact that you managed to get an interview answered..
Anyhow, I'm actually a little wary about RTS on consoles, since playing C&C: Red Alert, I've looked down at the concept.. However, things change, the Wii might pull it off... Mind you, I'd have to play it myself to change my mind about it.. ![]() |

RE: Swords & Soldiers Interview
Well since it's a side scrolling RTS it won't be like your traditional RTS. I don't think I've played such a game before so it will indeed be an interesting experience. It's really good to see games like this on WiiWare though as lately some of the releases haven't been that impressive.
