Both of them were phat models. It is it something to do with them being phat.

The 1st one - The blu-ray drive wouldn't read any discs
The 2nd one - When you turn it on, you would have a black screen

same thing happened to my phat PS3 with the blu-ray not reading discs.....i gotit fixed then sold it on ebay for about 200 bucks, and then went out and got the slim version...have had it for about 2 years now and haven't had a problem with it yet "fingers crossed"

I never seen any thing like this on a PS3 game console
Although the problem is similar to the problem i had with my Wii game console (Fixed now)
Maybe you could

take it apart and see what's wrong with it

Have you ever dropped your PS3 before or is a disk jammed?
