PC gaming is notorious for enhancing gameplay via custom content such as mods and maps created by the community. This is especially true in the FPS genre as back when I played Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, the server my clan had contained several fun custom maps in rotation. That was one of the perks of owning your own server and advantages of playing such a game on the PC, unfortunately, it seems that Infinity Ward's attempt to "improve" PC gaming might actually have the opposite effect.

Rather than allowing players to have their own dedicated servers, Modern Warfare 2 (PC) will run off their own servers according to an interview with Rob Bowling (IW community manager) and the matchmaking will be handled via that which apparently will thwart the possibility of playing custom maps and mods. It has NOT been confirmed that these things will not be possible though but it is speculated that this is the case.

I can see some of the pros of this approach but in this case, the cons outweigh them as custom maps/mods plus complete server control are highly essential IMO. Also, I hope that this wasn't done in hopes of them trying to release paid DLC for the PC version and limiting PC gamers to just that, which is basically what console gamers have to put up with whereas PC gamers formerly were freed from this burden due to the vast amount of "free DLC" available such as those kickass Nazi Zombie maps made by the community for World at War....

Well by the looks of MW2 its already good enough and PC Gamers should just bow in it presence :P

We, as in most gamers, complain about at least one thing in every game but we should just be happy we are getting a fantastic sequel to a amazing game.

Yeah but in this particular case, the b*tching is justified as the custom stuff is what makes purchasing the game on the PC attractive since you can't get that bonus on the console version and to strip it out away is a slap in the face.

Sure the game will probably still be good but it probably won't reach it's "full" potential which can be achieved via the community free of charge. As I said with my WaW example, the PC players got way more Nazi Zombie maps than the console players who were limited to whatever Treyarch released (which was not free either).

Back in my PC gaming days I loved custom maps and mods, they made the PC version of the game way more enjoyable.

No dought that there will be comunity servers and shit tho, there will allways be some nerd that makes it all posible :P

Yea . My friend is angry at it also , but he is just so over whelmed about MW2 coming out , but I think it isnt really that bad , or is it?

People will bitch and complain but will go along since there is nothing they can really do until someone finds a work around since nobody is going to boycott the game.

Without a doubt a workaround will probably be found as if there are private servers for World of WarCraft, I'm sure they'll find a way to implement something for CoD.

However, this could prove damaging in the long run as I imagine that these private servers will allow pirated copies to play as well and in retaliation a lot of players might take this route rather than paying for the game.

I wonder if anyone has cancelled pre orders since they are only just releaseing this info now.

You forgot that they're also trying to charge $60 for the game.

I had no intention of getting it in the first place, so I can't say it changed my view any, but it's definitely a dick move on Infinity's part.
