consoles in general vs. PC

RE: consoles in general vs. PC
The thing is that several games aren't cross platform in terms of online multiplayer, and since it seems that the majority prefers consoles, if you want to play with friends, you'll have to get a console too. As for emulation, it takes time and is not perfect. Even the N64 hasn't been ironed out 100% yet and that's been out for years now.

I plan to eventually get myself a good gaming PC rig but for now I'll pass due to the initial cost as well as the discouragement I got from my previous rig...Fried motherboards are not cool at all.

RE: consoles in general vs. PC
The only games not supported (n64) are
Densha de Go! 64 (J)
GameShark Pro V3.3 (Unl)
Mario no Photopie (J)
NFL Quarterback Club 98 (E) & (U)
Puzzle Master 64 by Michael Searl (PD)
Taz Express (E)

And even then there are LLE plugins that allow the emulation of these games, but I do see your point. However, my purpose in mentioning emulation is just to give an indicator of the capabilities.

Consoles are capable as well, but the methods in getting such emulation functional is often annoying (PS2, Xbox) and more often than not, compatibility is much worse.

Yeah I get your point.

At one point I strongly supported PCs over consoles but like I said, I lost my faith in them when my motherboard fried twice on me lol...Plus PCs still can't beat the plug and play factor that consoles offer although consoles aren't perfect either (RRoD and so on).

RE: consoles in general vs. PC
One thing that makes me want to pc game is mod tools, and mods in general. I would love to create tank arenas for CoD:WaW. Wish Treyarch would port the mod tools to 360. I would pay 400pts to be able to make my own and download other peoples mod maps.

I really liked Tokyo Wars, a sit-down arcade game that was basically team deathmatch with tanks. Alien Front Online for Dreamcast was also a great game in the same vein.

Yeah it's too bad the chances of such tools making their way to the 360 are slim to none.

However, on the bright side, Microsoft is supposedly going to release some game creation app. for the 360 soon and it's supposed to be easy to use so anyone can make a decent game. I'm looking forward to that as even if it doesn't let you create the next Gears of War, it might still be cool to create another little game that could occupy your time. And it would be even better if that app. let you create multiplayer games although I doubt it will support that..

Just give me the console, and I will be happy with the game that is in it. You know?

RE: consoles in general vs. PC
I can't stand playing strategy on consoles. I've tried hundreds of times, but rapidly loose interest. Even EndWar, a great game, but after 4 days, I just lost interest. I dont dislike it, I just grew up with Strategy pc games. First Person Shooters are about the same. I find it easier to aim with PC (pre next-gen) but I haven't bought a FPS for PC since SWAT4.

I would probably take a PC over concole any day, but the cost of buying and maintaining a gaming PC isn't worth it to someone who only makes money during summer. Not to mention the co-op ability of consoles.

That is one of the many pluses of a console. All they have to do is start selling very cost effective hardware so you can update the console once a year or so.

RE: consoles in general vs. PC
PC gaming does have an advantage of console gaming, and that is flexibilty and the ability to update your system to meet system requirements for a game. The downside to pc gaming is that the games you want don't always work well with your specs. All in all, I'd pick consoles over pc.

Covenience vs performance. PC wins the battle for me but still, u can at least carry consoles around with u and they won't cost an arm and a leg to replace compared to PC's
