RE: consoles in general vs. PC
Consoles are the better choice IMO.
It's the expensive nature of the pc that turns me off. Upgrading hardware and software on a possibly month to month basis is just insane. Buy a console, you're set until the next gen. Unless you get RRoD'd. The you can ignore the "being set" comment. ![]() Ask me for SSBB/Mario Kart friend codes. |

RE: consoles in general vs. PC
A solid PC can be created for a cheap PC. My last PC lasted me 5-6 years. In fact L4D is playable on it still (30 some FPS) - with tweaks of course. PC games in general are much more customizable, but aside from that they will always produce a better experience in the end - given time. And if M+K isn't your wish, just connect 360 controllers or get a ps2->pc connector.

RE: consoles in general vs. PC
Well it's possible to get a good rig. for a cheap price, but it takes time and effort. And sometimes you can get some not so friendly hardware, and it can lead to some compatibility problems despite the fact that it should meet a game's minimum requirement.
I'd say a fair statement is that PC gaming is rewarding in the long run if you're willing to put time, effort, and money into it. Whereas console gaming usually requires less time, effort, and money but has some limitations (game customization for one). However, due to piracy it seems that some companies are leaning more towards console versions of their game, Gears of War 2 for instance..So later down the road some games might be ditched on the PC due to this. Read The Forum Rules Pwnem Veteran <- This explains what it is and how to become one. |

RE: consoles in general vs. PC
console in general... really is the ideal solution for gamers if you think about it. you pay once and thats it, dont have to constantly keep upgrading and all that crap. but... as far as it goes now... yeah im going with pc. because if you build it right then you will be good for years and consoles and games for consoles are getting way too expensive. also consider that when one breaks down your just going to have to buy a new one.... they just dont make consoles like they used to.

RE: consoles in general vs. PC
Yeah, with the older consoles, if they started to mess up, you could take it apart and have a possible chance to actually get it to work again (did that with both my SNES and my N64 somehow...) But these new gen consoles, if you take it apart, and try tinkering.. You most likely won't get that far... Hence the upside to PCs... If there's something wrong with it, you or local computer technicians will know what is wrong with it, and it's probably cheaper to replace that one part then say, buying a new 360...

True, but you can find guides on the internet to help you learn how to fix something. I have seen some good tech vids.

RE: consoles in general vs. PC
Well i have allways gone for console because...
1. Cheaper, No need for updating every few months and for playing with friends 2. More games but the bad thing is that you have to pay to play online now. i liked Ps2 online because it was free. i dont see why the feel the need for it to cost the allready get a lot of $$$ from the console and games and your allready paying for internet then you have to got pay monthly fees aswell |

From what I've been told, Wii's online can get quite laggy at the worst of times. And PS3, I know for a fact can get ridiculously laggy at nearly EVERY time... 360's paid services, i think, actually provide for more, and better servers.. Thus, smoother online play. And I think there are "some" PC games that you need to pay a membership fee to play... PC's have more games than any ONE console.. However, may be either tied, or have a little less than all consoles combined... Because when you think about it, a game like Age of Empires.. It's a reasonably old game, yet it's still a PC game and can be played on any new PC.. Consoles can't really claim to do that.. Sure they can have compatibility with it's previous console, but the game still belongs to that previous console... So yeah, overall.. PC has the most games IMO. ![]() ![]() |

RE: consoles in general vs. PC
And while it's not in the interest for many to discuss this, consoles will be emulated in the future. PS2 emulation, for example, is growing fast. While many games are not full speed, it is interesting to note the progress.
Regarding price.. A current "pro" Xbox 360 w/ wireless internet is about 450 right? With 700 I could build a computer that I won't have to upgrade for maybe 4-5 years. Which is exactly what I did for my last rig. The fact of the matter is that no one smart will upgrade their video cards every month. Unless it's like a 50% performance increase, don't waste the cash. Aside from all that, PCs are much more flexible. Maybe consoles would get there, but there is no doubt that it would cost additional to get there. If you look at the M+K addons for consoles (ie 360) they are quite costly. |
