For those of you who have been around long enough, you might remember our interview with the developers of this game conducted a while back prior to their WiiWare release which got positive reviews across the net. However, up until recently it was a WiiWare exclusive and it has now been verified that it will in fact be coming to both the Steam and PSN platform this fall.

Ronimo Games PR Wrote:Just as the recently announced PlayStation®Network version, the PC version offers:
- 30 ridiculols campaign levels (yes ridicuLOLs)
- 3 very distinct factions: the Vikings, Aztecs and Chinese
- Deeply integrated online multiplayer mode
- Online leaderboard-enabled challenge modes
- Accessible yet deep RTS gameplay
- Lush 2D HD graphics
- New extended soundtrack
- Customizable Skirmish modes

Additionally, the PC version will feature Steam Achievements and the original cursor based control scheme. Whereas the PlayStation Network version will feature Trophies and a revamped dual analog control scheme.

Soon you will be able to wage war, from the couch to the office and back again from your PC or PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system! Just one final weapons check and the armies of Swords & Soldiers will be ready to march right out of your screens!

Swords & Soldiers will be available this fall on the PlayStation Network and Steam, the final release date and pricing will be announced soon.

As you can see, it's quite an update from the WiiWare version which lacked online multiplayer and HD graphics. We'll keep you updated with more details as we become aware of them.

For more info on the game, check out the official website: http://swordsandsoldiers.com/

PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap
Platform: Playstation Network (PSN)
Price: $6.99 if you don't own the original PixelJunk Racers otherwise it's a free upgrade.

Featuring a variety of charming and addictive games, the PixelJunk franchise has made a well respected name for itself on the Playstation Network. Having received a less than stellar reception, however, the PixelJunk Racers game looks to improve upon itself with its new expansion, PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap. Is the content sufficient enough to save this slot car racer? Or has the problem been with the fundamentals all along?

Gameplay:
Viewing the race course from a bird's eye view, the player is put behind the wheel of a tiny slot car with only the ability to accelerate and switch amongst 5 different lanes in order to maneuver around (or smash into, depending on the race type) the other racers occupying the road. It's incredibly simplistic, but offers a wide variety of ways to play.

At a glance the advertised 32 race types of PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap may sound staggering, but upon playing them you'll come to realize that there is little more to this game than controlling throttle and counting on twitch-reaction lane switches. Whether it's dodging other cars that act as bombs, weaving in and out of differently paced traffic to reach the finish line in time, or playing "Munchies" where you must plow through other cars, eating them to stay alive as long as possible - it's really just a bunch of cute ideas with different ways of saying the same thing. The design resembles that of a party game, and the numerous amount of race types suggest a fun time, whether by yourself or with friends. But what soon becomes apparent is that the game is not only incredibly simplistic, but also incredibly hard.

Overtaking cars for points or speed is a common theme in several of the game types.

It's not a rewarding kind of "hard" either - the entire game just feels tedious, and when you've become good at it, this turns to boredom. The bird's eye view presents tiny slot cars and tiny lanes, and the inability to distinguish the proper alignments will make the game almost unplayable for brand new players. For a game showboating itself as a party title, one has to ask how long a party will last if no one can play a race properly. Working past the frustration will allow you to advance through the game's tournament mode and unlock more race types that honestly, have nothing more to offer to the fundamental experience.

Graphics & Audio:
It's PixelJunk. It's easy on the eyes and is rocking a clean cut presentation. The simplistic look reflects the nature of the gameplay, and the game features fun sounding music and enthusiastic sound effects.

Replay value:
Trying each of the 32 race types is a fun time in the sense that it satisfies your curiosity over what they'll offer, and the small minority of players who push themselves at this game will have online leaderboards to look forward to - which thankfully do add some reward and meaning to your efforts. Otherwise, it's hard to believe your friends will be begging to play PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap with you, and unlikely that you'll find a better time with this game compared to the countless other twitch based flash games you could simply play on a browser.

In order to win this race, keep close to your buddy for enhanced speed.

Overall:
PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap isn't a poorly constructed game, in fact as a PixelJunk title, it's naturally very well put together. However, the problems arise from the concept of the game itself in that zooming into a slot car around a track isn't all that interesting of an experience. Not to say it couldn't be, but the attempts to make this particular game interesting ultimately fall flat in creating something worthwhile, and instead prove to be largely stale additions to an already shallow idea.

Pros:
+Looks nice
+Leaderboards

Cons:
-Incredibly tedious
-Mundane design
-Superficial variety

PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap earns itself a 4.5/10 for being a well presented but undeniably bland game with little more to offer than frustration and the bare minimum sense of satisfaction.

There has been a lot of discussion lately about whether or not used games are destroying the industry. Where do you stand on the issue?

Personally, I buy mostly new games because I rarely buy games months after they are released. If a game is good enough to garner a purchase, I'm more likely to buy it the week it comes out when there aren't any used copies available. On the occasion that I do buy a used game, it's because I am undecided on whether or not I really want it and I probably wouldn't have bought it at regular price. In this case, if I really like the game, I am more likely to buy another game from that IP or developer when it's new.

On the other end, I sell just about every console game once I'm tired of it, so I'm fueling the industry as well.

If you haven't realized it yet, Castle Crashers hit the PSN marketplace today and is officially no longer a Xbox 360 exclusive. From my understanding, the game is basically a port of the 360 version but with some new content.

Team arena and a new volleyball mode to be exact.

Team Arena

The price is the same as the XBLA version ($14.99) and will support offline/online co-op as well.

I plan on getting this once my PS3 arrives later on this month (purchased the Move bundle so it'll take a while) but if our PSN review staff gets hold of it earlier, they'll post up a review soon. This game is definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of side-scrolling games and would enjoy something with a bit of an RPG feel to it as the game features a nice leveling system which caps you at 99.

They are constructing an image of the team via points of light placed by each person. They are doing well. Please help them, even if you don't like halo, its a really cool piece of community art, and I think it might make gamers look a little more unified, plus the better it looks the nicer it might look say....lasered into crystal like I am praying they do.
Also, Mods, GaMeR approved this, thx
EDIT: Also, give Emils legs some action if you do eh? My guy is nearly invisible.

That I haven't been active at all these last couple months, I know its no worries to most of you but it is to me.

I am not making excuses and there are none for me seeing how I still have the time to game. I got a job, started to light up some old flames, and school just started for me.

I still love being a part of this forum but at my current lifestyle I do not have a lot of time to spare, even though I am still trying my hardest to get on a browse around. Yes I do still come on a look around but I never post :[

So sorry to say this guys and gals of Pwnem, but it just looks like I won't be around as much as I used to. I've spent the last week thinking about it, and its hard to say this.

You all grew on me, from being a Newbie on this site to becoming a Mod. I have spent almost 2 years on this forum and I have to say I have never come close to seeing me joining another. This is my gaming family, and I will never forget any of you.

I leave GaMeR with the decision of giving my Mod status to someone who is on more often or just leaving me with it. I don't see it fair that someone who is on more often then am I not having the honor of mod-ing the site just as I did.

Again, I am sorry for all of this. I miss all of you and when I start picking things back up I will make my return, but until that all I can do is just post on a weekly basis.

Silverware not required.

Normally, we stick to reviewing video games but exceptions are sometimes made for related products, especially if they taste good. With that said, if you haven't heard of Gamer Grub yet, you soon will. As the name states, it's "food for gamers" and what makes it special in particular is the convenient packaging it comes in.

One of the common dilemmas that most gamers encounter while gaming is the fact that they'll get hungry and although one could simply stop playing to grab a quick snack, we all know that in reality it's easier said than done especially when you're in the middle of defeating your rival clan or are on the last level of Horde in Gears of War 2 over Xbox Live. Due to this, we're often tempted to pop open a bag of chips or another snack of choice which will indeed solve the hunger crisis but as a result, could cause another problem such as dirty hands/gaming gear.

Gamer Grub was designed to solve this dilemma by fulfilling your hunger without making a mess. After trying out two product samples, I can vouch that it does what it claims. Here's my input on both flavors that I tried:

Gamer Grub BBQ
Imagine what BBQ flavored trail mix would taste like minus some of the traditional ingredients, that's what this flavor essentially is. Assuming you're not allergic to either peanuts or almonds, you will most likely enjoy this flavor if you're fond of BBQ chips and spicy nuts as well. It goes down great with a bottle of water from my experience.

Gamer Grub S'mores
It's been a while since I've eaten "real" s'mores but from what I recall, this flavor came relatively close as it had a lot of the key ingredients in it minus the campfire. A good "dessert" type snack that's not messy.

Overall, I enjoyed the taste of both flavors and found the packaging to be simple yet clever. It uses this "tear n' tilt" concept which has you "drinking" the snack. Due to this, you'll notice that the chunks of food are small to accommodate this technique as it'd be hard to do that with a bag of standard sized potato chips without choking. I found this a bit odd at first though as I'm not used to eating things that way but gave it a shot. I highly recommend you shake it as stated in the instructions though otherwise the food won't flow too well which I learned the hard way until I decided to go by the book. Also, if you decide to save the opened snack for later, you can easily seal it up again due to the ziplock. As for the tearing process, it was quite smooth from my experience with both snacks and didn't accidentally damage the ziplock which is sometimes a problem in other products.

Lastly, the pricing is not cheap when compared to other snack foods but is relatively reasonable if you take into consideration the convenience that Gamer Grub offers and the quality of the food/packaging. Unlike traditional junk food, it does have some nutritional value as it has a couple of vitamins and zero cholesterol. So, while it's not as cheap as your typical potato chip bag, it at least won't get crumbs all over the place nor grease on your hands/gaming gear. The clever packaging of the tasty "grub" is the major selling point in my opinion.

Just bought Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night PSX Classic on my PSP, PWNSOME! I missed this game!
Though Aria of Sorrow is my favorite Castlevania (GBA), SotN is the episode that started the legacy by changing it from a side-scrolling, to an RPG-like side-scrolling!
Enjoying the heck out of it =D

Also got Unbound Saga, I like it's sense of humor Reminds me of Borderlands.
It's just a traditional side-scrolling beat-'em-up game, which is awesome :P
The graphics are a bit odd, 'cause some of it looks really good, and unique on the PSP (Kinda similar to Borderlands' graphics), and then some of it looks comic like or just scribbles; which blends with the story perfectly :)

I'm liking them both a lawt :D

Clover: A Curious Tale
Platform: Xbox Live Indie Games (Xbox 360)
Price: 400 MSP / $5

A rewarding experience if you're willing to explore the wonders of trial-and-error.

Gameplay:
If you've ever played one of those point-and-click adventure games you shouldn't have a problem understanding Clover: A Curious Tale's gameplay which combines that genre with that of traditional 2D platformers except that you'll have to settle for your 360 controller rather than the traditional mouse/keyboard setup. The game takes place in the "Dark Ages" when the king still called the shots, you take on the role of a guy named Sam who's recently become an orphan as a result of his mother's death on a ship that was supposedly the work of the enemy. In order to uncover the mystery behind this event, you'll have to do explore the town and beyond to acquire the items necessary for the task along with a great deal of socializing with the locals in order to discover what you should do next since the game does not spoon feed you the objectives.

As a result of this, trial-and-error is often required. At times you might "accidentally" solve a puzzle while other times you'll be hitting your head against the wall trying to figure out what you should do with your current inventory. Luckily, the first couple of puzzles are fairly straight-forward to get you acquainted with the mechanics of the game but rest assured that it will become challenging later on, creativity and critical thinking will both be required. This does not mean that you have to be genius to enjoy the game though as once you've figured out all the puzzles, you'll be shocked at the actual simplicity of some of the more challenging puzzles but due to the vague hints that are extracted from the locals, things aren't obvious so it's quite easy to overlook even the simplest solution. In addition, certain items can be combined which the game fails to mention which is certainly useful to know as it's necessary for certain puzzles. My advice is to keep on exploring/socializing as well as turning on hints which enables you to spot important things that you might have thought were not interactive as there are quite a few scenery items that appear to be usable when in fact they're not. Prepare yourself for occasional frustration as well unless you're really good at these type of games.

No, you don't count sheep in the game. Instead, you must figure out a way to make them less hostile.

Returning to my point-and-click adventure game reference, to those of you unfamiliar with this genre, the idea is to basically collect and properly utilize items/information to solve certain puzzles that lead you one step closer to completing the adventure. Unlike certain titles where there are sometimes multiple ways of solving a puzzle, Clover: A Curious Tale only offers puzzles that have one correct solution with the exception of a few unintended loopholes that some players have discovered. Aside from the lack of descriptive hints, forgetting about the existence of an item can often be problematic too due to the game's limited inventory slot as you can only carry 2 items at a time when you start the game and can later carry an extra item once you've solved a particular puzzle which lands you this extra slot as a reward. As for death, while it is possible to "die", you don't actually die and instead wake up in the gaol (commonly referred to as a jail in modern times) where you're surprisingly able to freely exit/enter the area as you please. Drowning or being hassled by guards is a nice way to encounter this form of punishment. Ending up in there will also save the game so it's a strange but effective way of saving the game as well although ideally you'll want to trigger the saving by correctly solving a puzzle instead.

Heard this rambling before? SKIP IT. Just make sure you didn't ignore any hints...

Lastly, to those worried about the excessive amount of dialogue sometimes found in such games, I'm happy to say that this game did not suffer from this although the prison guard's voice does get rather old as each time you end up in there, it triggers his speech when you pass him. Instead of being lengthy, most of the dialogue is relatively short and to the point, it's also voiced well so you don't even have to read it!

Graphics & Audio:
The game features a hand drawn art style that compliments the game's "storybook" look. It won't cause your jaw to drop but it's certainly not the work of an amateur artist either. However, I will admit that I was quite impressed by the visuals of a "secret" level that is triggered via a particular item. Since it would spoil the game a bit I won't describe it any further but I will recommend boarding the boat with something that can keep track of time to experience this. As for the music, although it is quite nice and atmospheric, it does get a bit bland after a while. This is particularly noticeable in the frustrating moments of the game where you're disoriented. As mentioned before, there is spoken dialogue in the game and it sounds pretty good. Each character has a distinct and appropriate human voice which is something that's often not found in XBLIG titles, so props to the developer.

Replay value:
After you've completed the game, there's not much of a reason to go back due to the nature of the game unless you want to attempt a speed run as once you've completed the game, it will tell you how long it took. Since there are no leaderboards, you'll be competing against your own record keeping though. Also, there are some relatively hidden newspapers that are not mandatory to collect but do lengthen the playtime due to the extra effort required to get them.

Overall:
Without spoiling the game, it's hard to describe some of the clever puzzles found in the game that make the experience worthwhile so they're best seen with your own two eyes. With that said, Clover: A Curious Tale is indeed a curious tale of adventure and exploration that's certainly worth the 400 MSP asking price if you're a fan of point-and-click adventure games. To the non-fans of the genre, if you've never experienced it, this game is still feasible to an entry level player, and to those who typically dislike such titles, I honestly doubt it will change your mind but considering that the price isn't as high as similar titles, it might still be worth looking into. There is a free trial available after all. The game isn't very long but depending on your skills, you should be able to get at least close to an hour from it if you're good at solving the puzzles or even several hours if it's been ages since you've played sometime similar (took me about 4 hours or so as I overlooked several things, these games aren't my strong point). Due to the nature of the game, I believe it's a fair lifespan. As for the ending, it's nothing that will win any awards but is somewhat inspiring to say the least if you agree with the main political theme behind the game (don't worry, it's none of that Democrat/Republican propaganda).

Pros:
+Nice artwork & music
+Voiced dialogue
+Clever puzzles
+While heavily based on the point-and-click adventure concept, there is some platforming involved which creates a nice genre mash-up

Cons:
-Ending wasn't as good as expected
-Alternative solutions to certain puzzles would have helped boosted the replay value
-The player was confined to predetermined choices throughout the game, a bit of freedom and significantly different outcomes would have made the game much more interesting

Clover: A Curious Tale encounters a 8/10 for bringing the fun of point-and-click adventure games to the XBLIG platform with some clever puzzles and a nice presentation in the form of a 2D platform. As disclosed in the review, I hadn't played a similar title in ages so keep this in mind.

This series reminds me a lot of Tales From The Crypt except each episode significantly varies in quality and doesn't really follow a particular format.

With that said, the episodes that are good, are quite enjoyable especially when you take into consideration that they were made for TV and that they have a 60 minute limit. If you're a fan of horror and don't mind B movie quality at times, it's worth looking into.

There's even an episode with some gamers called "The V Word" :P

Too bad it wasn't that good though...As for recommendations, "Sounds Like" looked like something would be enjoyed by most horror fans as long as you're not expecting something that's traditionally "scary".

7Strains: The Infectious
Platform: Xbox Live Indie Games (Xbox 360)
Price: 80 MSP / $1

Very solid gameplay and concept but is in desperate need of AI players.

Gameplay:
This game is a top down survival shooter, where you are placed in a randomly generated map and have to survive against different strains of bacteria by shooting rocks at them to kill them. The objective is to simply survive as long as you can. There are a limited number of rocks that are found throughout the level, and you can carry up to five at a time. Once the rock is shot, once it stops in place, you can go back and retrieve it because no additional rocks spawn throughout the match. There are seven strains of bacteria; essentially they are seven enemy types that behave differently. You have some strains that simply attack with no strategic approach while some dodge your rocks and can only be killed from close distance, other strains that are extremely fast, and even some that are extremely slow but take numerous shots to kill, and so forth.

7Strains offers numerous game types. Beside the randomly generated stages that support up to four players, there are pre-rendered "challenge" stages set up to test how long you can survive with the given setup. When playing the game with four players, you can then play the game in versus mode where you can attack the other players for competition, or can play the game cooperatively and work together to survive as long as possible. Unfortunately, these modes can ONLY be played if you have two or more players as the game does not offer any type of AI players to fill those spots. By far the greatest downfall to this game is the lack of the AI players, because when the game is played alone, all of the modes feel literally same and get rather repetitive in a short amount of time. I was lucky enough to try the game with two players, and the experience is significantly better when played with a friend.

The controls are very simple, but they take a bit to get a hang of them. The left control stick controls the movement of your strain, the right control stick aims where your shots will be placed (this is done while on the move), the right trigger and left trigger shoot the rocks (when held longer, the rock is shot farther), and the A, B, X, Y buttons are used or precision aiming although I found this to be rather useless. The shooting while moving can be challenging to some at first, but it will not take long to get the feel for it.

The gameplay overall is rather good, but like I said earlier, the lack of AI players really cuts the experience from what it could have been. Everything works perfectly, the game types are all customizable, and the controls work very well. I had a lot of fun with this, but it is hard to spend a lot of time playing this game when you are alone because it all starts to feel the same.

The game requires a bit of teamwork when played cooperatively.

Graphics & Audio:
The graphics in 7Strains are very simple and straight forward, but in this case this is not a bad thing, they fit the game perfectly and work very smoothly. As the game progresses, you will see more and more strains on the screen at the same time, and you never experience any slowdown at all. The graphics are pretty standard, but they work very well. The audio on the other hand is very good, the background music fits the game very well and the 16 tracks will keep the music from getting too repetitive. Overall the visual and audio presentation of 7Strains is very good.

The randomly generated maps provide for a unique level every time.

Replay value:
The replay value in 7Strains is a little sketchy. As I mentioned before, the game suffers a lot from not having the option of playing with AI players. When this game is played alone, the replay value is very low. You have the option of going back to the challenge levels and trying to beat your own high scores, but this can only be do so often before you do not want to do it anymore. If this game is played with two or more players, preferably four, then it has a moderate replay value. Otherwise it will be fun for a little while, and you probably will not find yourself coming back to play it for awhile.

Overall:
I had fun with this game, but I cannot stress enough how repetitive this gets when played alone. That does not mean it is a bad game, it simply does not offer enough content to keep you coming back for more. The multiplayer modes are fun and require a bit of teamwork, and the versus mode brings back a strange feeling of Super Mario Kart. The game is presented and programmed very well, with a great soundtrack in the background, and even though it is not too flashy, when you play the game you realize how smoothly it actually plays. I had fun with the game, but unfortunately I do not see myself coming back to it anytime soon.

Pros:
+Very well executed concept
+Randomly generated levels make a huge variety in the levels
+Good background music with 16 tracks that will last you awhile

Cons:
-In desperate need of AI players or online play
-Pretty low replay value when played alone
-The simple concept can get repetitive very quickly

7Strains: The Infectious performs well, but does not infect enough, scoring a 7.25/10.
