SHARK WEEK 2008

RE: SHARK WEEK 2008
Tonight at 9 p.m. is the premiere of Mysteries of the Shark Coast. That's the one where scientists look to figure out what's happening to all the sharks along Australia's northeastern coast... they're disappearing. With the key predators missing, the ocean food chain is not in balance.Surprised

Here are some images from the special:

That last picture looks pretty dangerous.

Also, I wasn't aware that they were disappearing..

I haven't seen this special yet so I'm not sure why these Australian sharks are disappearing, but it's true... in general shark populations have been on the decline due to excessive fishing and unintentional fishnet catchings. It doesn't help that many people view sharks as villains when in reality they're pretty important to the ocean's ecosystem.

RE: SHARK WEEK 2008
Yeah, majority of professional fisherman I've met here in Australia have said that they've either accidentally netted a shark, or have seen a dead one floating around or something like that.. A bit sad really... But then there are probably people that go out and purposefully hunt them..

Yeah, it's sad but true.

Today's schedule can be seen here.

In case you missed it the first time around, they're showing that new Dirty Jobs special, Greenland Shark Quest, again tonight at 9 p.m. I'm looking forward to watching Air Jaws at 11 p.m. If you've never heard of or seen it before, check out this clip. So amazing.Surprised

I could stare at those pictures for ages, I love underwater shots, and I love sharks even if they do scare me to death.

I don't have Cable so I cant watch Discovery channel, sorry.

Ah, that's a shame you don't have Discovery. I'm glad you liked the shots though! Here are pics from the Surviving Sharks special with Les Stroud (for those that can watch Discovery - this airs again on Saturday, August 2nd, at 8 p.m.):
