Yes, it just occurred to me that I'm turning into an Otaku (See: Otaku - Wikipedia), namely due to me having a new avatar, sig, and little caption thing under my name.... And also the fact that my mum just brought home a preview dvd with the first few episodes of some new anime and I was excited...

I've also joined an anime forum, which has probably fueled my love for it, etc, etc..

Otaku is a Japanese term referring to someone who is a loser/failure/shut in. You'll rarely see Japanese referring to other Japanese who like Anime as "Otaku". It's a myth invented by Westerners, for Westerners. Westerners and such seem to coin the term for use for anyone who enjoys anime.

The term you're looking for is weeaboo, or anime otaku. Otaku as a whole is a branching term for anyone with interests in anything not hugely popular, which is contradictory as since the early 2000's, Anime has become hugely popular and mainstream (in America).

I remember back in the days that becoming a weeaboo wasn't as simple as watching Adult Swim from 11-2, but w/e...

Go watch some Getter Robo, Black Lagoon, Macross, and Evangelion.

Other good but mainstream anime are Samurai Champloo, Trigun (A++ for Trigun), and The Big O.

But never, EVER, F*CKING EVER touch anything Naruto.

Naruto is possibly the worst excuse for anything drawn from Japan I've ever seen. I'd sooner watch the entire Lucky Star anime than touch one episode of that shit.

If the time comes, and someone pressures you into it, make sure it's at least A: Not the 4kids dubbed version (see: The one with the protagonist having the annoying ass voice), or even better, just read the Manga (which is leagues less shitty).

Yes, I have already been forced to watch ONE episode of that crap, and I've vowed "NEVER AGAIN".

And also, I only like watching one anime at a time, and currently that's Code Geass R2. Next on my list is Evangelion.
