I think the best old fighting games were Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and King of Fighters.

Tekken for NES wasn't that good, the PS versions were way better.

The newer remakes of the other series are pretty good too, but we can't forget the classics.

Mortal Kombat was my favourite.. there was another one I like, but I can't remember the name of it, I played it on Sega anyway.

How did the characters look like on that game? Maybe I can remember the name.

Was it Streets of Rage by any chance? That wasn't really a fighting game though, more of a beat em up kind of thing. Or perhaps it was even Virtua Fighter.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighter was actually pretty good, but nothing beats Street Fighter II.

Oh... King of Fighters is awesome too... Gotta love it.

Speaking of KoF, did anyone play King of Fighters 2006 for the PS2? I heard about it recently, it's a 3D version of KoF. I haven't played it yet though, but it looks good. Hopefully it won't be disappointing like some other 2D to 3D conversions..

Some other good fighting games include the Vs. series, like Marvel Vs. Capcom, SNK Vs. Capcom, X-Men Vs. Street Fighter and so on. There was also the X-Men fighting game called Children of Atom.

Mortal Kombat was one of my favorites... I used to play it all the time, and still occasionally play it in an emulator on my pc. :)

When I played Mortal Kombat, I was quite scared of it... like it was so gruesome but I really loved upper-cutting your oponent and they fly through the roof into a new arena.

I remember the first time I saw the fatalities I was like wow.

I'd say MK was one of the first really violent fighting games, some people might say Street Fighter, but that game wasn't as violent as MK. It looked more cartoonish and it just showed sparks of blood whereas Mortal Kombat took it to the next level lol.

Mortal Kombat is the BEST!
