According to the inquirer and a few other site i have read Mr Mods Chips won a battle in court for selling 'illegal' mod chips.

This is apparently down to the copyright protection not being broken by the chip it happens when the disk is copied.

This means that now mod chips are seen as legal in the uk

oppinions on if this is good or bad?

That fucked up.

I mean it great for home brewers who make there own games or for people who turn there consoles into media home centers, but how many people are gonna use this for pirating games...biggest f**k up of 2008.

Well pirates are going to use the mod chips even if they're illegal so at least this helps out the homebrew community who will hopefully be able to release some interesting stuff.

However, commercial game developers are probably not too happy about this..

yeah, but now that there are legal, there are gonna be more easier to get hold of, and more people will use them.

tbh i could have named 5 stores of the back of my head tht would have chipped a console before this. I had My Wii Modified so i could play homebrew and the homebrew channel works really nice. if people want pirate games there ten a penny i guess there will be a slight rise though. I prefer to buy my games legitimately as i do with CD's and stuff as i feel the developers deserve my money for the time and effort they put in to make it entertaining for me. i felt guilty having it modified while it was illegal but now its legal means more open consoles for homebrew to be ported to so there will be more available which i see as a good thing. im not sure about homebrew for the 360 im not sure if there is much available. i know there is a linux port which im temped to try now i can get my 360 chipped. but then its forking out the money for the mod. also people modding there systems still risk bricking them with each new update, having no warranty(even if a soft mod became available this would break warrenty due to t&c's) and being banned from online content/gaming. So its a big risk to take since the consoles are not exactly cheap :p people who dont follow the homebrew scene and just wanna play copies will just get a chip and update as normal etc without checking if there system can be bricked or new firmware needs to be installed before updating ect so will get there consoles bricked which is quite just i think.

can systems still brick the consoles though..because of it being legal now.

I think it says about just modifying hardware in general im not sure ill get my book out and have a skeg in a bit :)

maybe in future consoles they should put a seal so that if you try to put some kind of modchip inside it, it breaks, and you loose your expensive Console :) Well they sholdnt make the seal over sensetive thou..
