Mirror's Edge
A new gaming coming out, being produced by DICE, set for release late this year for PC, 360 and PS3.
First of all- this game looks freaking BEAUTIFUL. The game is set is a conformist dystopia, where communication is heavily monitored... but enough quoting the wiki. You play as Faith, a 'runner', from what I can gather it's her job, along with a group of other 'runners' to deliver messages across the city, and avoid the police. You do this with the amazing power of Parkour, leaping from building to building, in what they are calling 'ture' First Person, as "You actually feel like you are controlling a person rather than a floating cammera" - (OXM) From what I can see, this game looks to be awesome, and sort of like Portal, where combat is not what should be driving you, but an actual strategy. Sure this is combat, and Faith looks to be handy in a fist fight, but, and I think logically for the setting, you're trying your best to avoid any confrontation. Enough from me, I'm sure that the wiki will have more useful information, and pictures of how nice the game looks.

RE: Mirror's Edge
Yeah I read about this a month ago in OXM, although they only offered one Screenshot.
Here's a few I found whilst googling. ![]() ![]() ![]() Looks alright, although if they don't tone down the Motion Blur I'm going to kill a man. ![]() http://getoutofherestalker.blogspot.com/ |

RE: Mirror's Edge
It's too...... colourful.
I mean, for a dystopian society, it just seems too out of place being colourful. And I know that most games these days ARE toned down colourwise, but this just seems a bit overdone... I mean, look at that frickin crane! it's BRIGHT RED!!! ![]() ![]() |

Aryon Wrote:It's too...... colourful. Heh, "colour". Anyhow, if you want to think about it, it makes perfect sense. If you want people to conform into a society and embrace it, you have to provide an attractive appeal, not some stereotypical "colorless and drab" looking place, even if your underlying goal is to cheat people out of freedom, choice, etc. The more you like something, the more you prove it has an affect over you, thus making it a controlling device in decision and choice making. So obviously it's going to look appealing, albeit it will still be a conformist state where everyone, well, for lack of more game info, conforms. Anyhow, this game REALLY needs less motion-blur, if it's like this when it releases, I'm going to throw up. ![]() http://getoutofherestalker.blogspot.com/ |

RE: Mirror's Edge
I dunno, maybe I've been playing too many darker games (GoW, Halo (not so much), CoD4, etc) that my idea of a dreary world wear people live in submission is a little more "dark".

Aryon Wrote:I dunno, maybe I've been playing too many darker games (GoW, Halo (not so much), CoD4, etc) that my idea of a dreary world wear people live in submission is a little more "dark". To the contrary I believe living in that kind of society to be quite uplifting by comparison. I mean, not to be argumentative, but think about it. In the GoW style society, good is good and bad is bad, it's all cut and paste, Ad-hoc. In a ACTUAL society, you don't know. If it was that easy to know, just look outside and say "Hey, this sucks, let's fight!", then people would fight. But in a reality, it isn't like that. If it was like that, well I explained it. In a real one, like ones that may or may not exist now, you're content, yet you don't even know you're being used. However, that's getting a little too philosophical, as I doubt this game will break the mold, and actually blur the line between good and evil. It's sad really, games have never really tried that. They've never tried to challenge you, the player, to find meaning or look into something a little deeper than "that guy kidnapped the princess, he's evil, the princess was kidnapped, she's good". What if they mixed it up. What if the princess was a genocidal mass murderer who was in possession of a virus capable of destroying mankind, but you're dumb ass tool of a self decided to rescue her (freakin' Mario). I'm not talking scripted shit, either, like Bioshock "Would you kindly" stuff. If you rescue her, you lose, game over. But anyhow, tl;dr version: all of this is tl;dr please ignore it. ![]() http://getoutofherestalker.blogspot.com/ |

RE: Mirror's Edge
So you'd rather live your life in a constant state of mind that there could be a possibility at any time of a hole appearing in your living room and ugly muthas comin out of it, or being bombarded by heated plasma from orbit?
But I do sort of understand you, in a world like GoW, you actually have a thing to do in life... fight. Whilst in a world like this Mirrors Edge, the average person is probably a coward (i dunno if this is true or not) and you're the "heroic" person that has to do every damned thing. Well that's how I interpreted your statement. BTW, does anyone know of the origins of the name "Mirror's Edge"? ![]() ![]() |

Aryon Wrote:So you'd rather live your life in a constant state of mind that there could be a possibility at any time of a hole appearing in your living room and ugly muthas comin out of it, or being bombarded by heated plasma from orbit? Well not exactly. What I mean is, well let me demonstrate. Do you think, right now, you're being used by the government? What if every keystroke puts a warhead into the shell of a bullet. That's not true though, right? Or is it? That's the fear of a general dystopian society. In the society of GoW, you kill, or be killed. Very basic, very simple. No confusion, no anything. Just kill, kill, kill, kill, and repeat. Imagine the Matrix, before Neo was pulled out of the system. THAT is what's REALLY scary, what you see in that movie. People living lives, imagining happiness, being content, unaware that those Robots are using them for a powersource every-single-day that they live there lives. That's the point I'm trying to make. Real fear isn't from knowing danger, it's from not knowing it. Anyhow this is getting dreadfully off topic, but then again, no real info has been released about this game at the moment, so who cares. Commence the philosophy. ![]() http://getoutofherestalker.blogspot.com/ |
