Just Incase
I was talking to one of my uh, less formal online friends.
I asked him about Spamming and what can be done, since he is apart of a Deception Network himself I didn't give him a link to this forum, but he was glad to help me. Basically what we came up with was stopping web addresses from being posted like this "www.deception-f4gs.com" but so they always appear like this instead [Link] or Link, an automated Hyperlink for all sentences beginning with www. and http, even ftp if you please. The same can be done with email addresses, which you can just block out the @hotmail.com, @eml.cc, etc. part, and restrain it to your profile only. There is also a way to make it so depending on your Rank/User Group on the forum how long your interval between posts is. Also, there are ways on Auto-Bans, for serious things such as mass-messages or other various things, like if the person posts text very similar or the same duplicate times, and an Auto-Ban which lasts until the Admin can review it and take action. Example: Make it so users or "Newbs" can only post once per minute, or 2, 3, 4 etc. minutes, and this only counts until they have 5 or 10 posts, etc. etc. Links http://www.spamitback.com - Fighting fire with fire (extreme) http://www.contact-us-online.com/forum - Didn't really look into this, basically explains ideas I already talked about. http://www.smokey-services.eu/forum/viewforum.php?f=47 - Discussions, probably has some ideas. Don't ask why I did this, really. ![]() -- ![]() TinyPic Is the best (: Check out my blog Image Link Storage: http://i29.tinypic.com/125jmkn.gif http://i29.tinypic.com/rw0v29.gif |

RE: Just Incase
Another way to secure a forum against spam is to make the memberlist visible to members only and hide the homepage field during registration. This way the site is unattractive to spambots trying to generate profiles. From my experience it works very well.

RE: Just Incase
I'll look into implementing some of those suggested features.
As for spam bots, the forum is secured against them, the only possible problem is people manually spamming. Xbox Gamer Blog Read The Forum Rules Pwnem Veteran <- This explains what it is and how to become one. |

RE: Just Incase
Page Rank building services from India and Pakistan... maybe the only option is to make it so that new members can fill in the homepage field and use signature links after making 5 posts?

RE: Just Incase
Well in this forum the spammers were doing it for the hell of it, not for business gains.
So different procedures have to be taken. Xbox Gamer Blog Read The Forum Rules Pwnem Veteran <- This explains what it is and how to become one. |
