Ideas for a Good, cheap Laptop
I am inept, poor(Rolleyes) and want a laptop to load with freeware so as not to fry my desktop.
If any of you know a REALLY cheap pc with the ability to do this, please help.
oh, and it would need to be a laptop.

Well, if by freeware you are referring to essential software (word processor etc.) and basic games, then a $600 laptop might be good enough.

And since most laptops come with Vista, I recommend having at least 2GB of RAM. Also telling us what your maximum budget is will help as you might be able to get a real good deal at that price rather than just going for a cheap laptop that will barely get the job done.

RE: Ideas for a Good, cheap Laptop
I'm not sure about the budget as I haven't got the Job that would pay for it.
As for Freeware, I mean like Cheap games, G.I.M.P., and other little things that are cool but not worth loading with this crap.
I have thought about an old laptop on Ebay, but I am know so little about the specs that I couldn't hope for a good deal.
I definitely wouldn't turn down a used one if the price was right,(except if I couldn't afford it.) I almost got an old Mac. powerbook, then I realized how incompatible the oldies were with Microsoft products.
Right now I make $40 a month, so the entire idea is out till summer when I hope to make $50 a week(Mom&Dad said if I get a job, I get 1/4th of the money, the rest is savings)
I am mostly curious about the cheap and quality PC's to be had, not yet able to buy one.

Well to play those "cheap" games you usually don't need that great of a PC.

I just saw a Compaq Presario F750US 15.4" Widescreen Laptop for $429 after rebates at Circuit City, it should be enough for your needs. However, multitasking won't be that great with only 1GB of RAM. So you may want to add another gig of RAM..

No, I would get a Macbook. You can get the basic one for a little over $1,000.
But thats just me.

Macbook for Freeware? Maybe (However it's no guarantee and probably unlikely that all the shit he wants to DL will be Mac compatible).

Macbook for anything remotely related to gaming? Hur hur, f*ck no.

Macs are work and multimedia (not gaming, however). PC's are the gaming/pirating computers.

RE: Ideas for a Good, cheap Laptop
Well while SOME freeware might work on a Macbook, it's not the best option IMO.

A low end Windows laptop will fulfill his needs better. And if you want to go for purely free software, then get a Windows PC and install Ubuntu. It has a built in system that lets you download/install free software with one click.
