Ideas for a Good, cheap Laptop

RE: Ideas for a Good, cheap Laptop
@ SnakeTheFox, try using WinAmp to transfer files and use Videora to encode videos.

Also, that laptop squee666 mentioned might be a good buy if you're looking for something simple. But I wouldn't recommend it if you later want to do more complicated stuff which will require better specs.

And if you're just looking for a device for casual web surfing (not YouTube or flash based sites) then a PDA might be good enough. As for the PSP, if by "mod." you mean to use an unofficial firmware you need to find a way to downgrade it unless you manage to get a PSP with the old firmware. Or you could install a mod. chip on it. BTW both are NOT endorsed by Sony.

But with the latest unmodified firmware you can surf the web, listen to music, watch videos, and play games. So if you're looking to do just that then it might be good enough for you. As for the PDA, a decent ~$300 PDA should have WiFi, video/mp3 playback, and let you install a handful of programs/games. Don't expect the games to have amazing graphics though. As for the apps. there's some useful stuff out there such as dictionaries, conversion calculators etc. which might come in handy.

RE: Ideas for a Good, cheap Laptop
I wouldn't get a name brand notebook (laptop) as they tend to make them a bit hard to change anything. Find an off brand one that is expandable and easy to upgrade. They cost less too. And for the love of God don't buy an IBM thinkpad.

When I surf it is usually youtube or pic sites, so a PDA not worth it.
