Ideas for a Good, cheap Laptop

RE: Ideas for a Good, cheap Laptop
What about PSP's, I know they aren't freeware friends, but as a small PC?
After the Modding and installation of new firmware, I understand they are capable of surfing.
Anybody done it before?

I was just saying that at the time. I love Macs. I don't play pc games so that compatibility is no issue.
I can guarantee what is the best notebook to buy for a cheap price.

For Multimedia, safety, ect, Macs are good.

But for Gaming, or Freeware/most programs they're not so useful.

RE: Ideas for a Good, cheap Laptop
I find Macs to be way better overall PC's, more secure, more user-friendly
But because of the security, they cannot do most of the retarded crap that the rest of us want to do.
Again, what about PSP's as a surfing device?
I understand them to be quite versatile.

Well while a modded PSP can do all sorts of things, you can't fairly compare it to a standard desktop/laptop. It might be able to run a few apps. here and there, but it's not a computer replacement. And if you want a portable device just to surf the web then get an iPhone/iPod Touch. The browser is awesome, and it can even handle YouTube videos.

Alternatively, you could also get a PDA. A ~$300 or so PDA will probably have more features than a modded PSP excluding games. So get that if you want something portable and want some useful apps on the go.

Portability is nice, but there is so much you cannot do with them. Overclocking using them all day long without losing power, being able to watch a video with a big screen etc.

I thought better of you Gamer.

If you want to get anything, get a Zune or offbrand MP3 player with Video.

Whatever you do, do not get an Ipod. My sister has one, the thing is a bitch and a half to do anything fun with. The worst part is how her Ipod in particular doesn't like to accept half the things I put on it because I didn't use Itunes (which, FYI, is full of things you PAY FOR, unlike say, pirating MP3's elsewhere).

Unless you're a teenage girl, you have no reason to EVER own an Ipod. The things not only cost more than the alternative, but they're also hardcoded to deny half the things you pirate, not to mention the videos are impossible to watch on anything Nano-sized (the screen is less than an inch in diameter). They will suck your money dry if you start paying 10 cents a song like they want you to. Real men own MP3 players.

For that matter, a PSP would probably be a better choice. Not only is the screen bigger, but it's also not such a b*tch to play with, and has the added bonus of the few good video games it has.

RE: Ideas for a Good, cheap Laptop
I won't deny that it is hard to put songs from outside iTunes into an iPod, but because I'm not a pirate, I have no trouble with that.
iPods are easy to use legally, and the store has a frickin huge archive, not to mention sales, and the cool little games.
So yes, if you are a pirate, get something else, but if you want a functional MP3 that doesn't require a college degree to use, get an iPod.
I had a Creative Mp3 for a while, talk about hard to use, stupid thing deleted my music several times.

As for my O.P. I am just thinking, Not sure of my wants.
I would be happy for a small surfer that didn't cost $200+
An iPhone would be cool, but far beyond my price range.
Do any of you know the mods required for a PSP?

I don't have a college degree.

Anyhow I'm not sure about the Freeware apps for the PSP. Try uh, google.

RE: Ideas for a Good, cheap Laptop
if you want something really cheap

get an EE PC
those really small laptops
you can also mod them to have more storage space
i see one modded so it had 2 internal sb ports both used and fitted with 2 dismantled 32gb flashpens
and it had N speed wifi

or get a laptop with/without vista
get the microsoft code to roll it back to XP
and then dualboot linux on it

linux will give you all the freeware you need and you will never get a virus in your life
