Only 700$? You need spend 4000$ To buy a computer that has a power equal to the PS3, well, atleast similar. They don't sell cell processor to computers.
Anyway, I recommend building your own computer. Do loads of researchers, building your own computer is good because you know exactly what you need. You build it the way that it would be best to serve you. I have never bought a brand computer. I always build my own computers. :) Symphony Developers - We Make Games That We'd Play. |

The problem with building is that if you don't know what your doing or have limited knowledge in it, it becomes a big hassle.
Plus if something goes wrong within the first year your screwed, and even if it was the motherboard, you have to call up the manufacturer and go through that whole process. At least if you bought it off a store, you can return it if something goes wrong within a few days or if there's a problem later on, usually the manufacturer's warranty covers it. But yes it's a cheaper solution, however, it's not for everyone. Xbox Gamer Blog Read The Forum Rules Pwnem Veteran <- This explains what it is and how to become one. |

I am not expert on these computers. I buy my computer pieces by myself so I can know EXACTLY whats inside it. I am a very paranoid guy when it comes to electronics! There is a small alarm on my head when something happens, like a weird noise or something. So buying my own pieces is an awesome solution to a guy like me. :P Symphony Developers - We Make Games That We'd Play. |

I've never bought one either, just the parts ;) I recently fried a mobo though (I almost had tears in my eyes dude). If you don't have the knowledge/experience though, packaged is okay. They usually have shit graphics cards but enough ram. I'm assuming you don't play many fps where flawless performance is necessary though. If you're just playing Oblivion or WoW or whatever you play you won't need an all-powerful, expensive rig. Alienware ftw though |

I also experienced a fried motherboard as well, and it sucks because you are left with two options, replacing it, which is a pain in the ass since you have to find one that will be compatible with your current parts, or buy a new PC which will cost $.
And also motherboards aren't that cheap either, so either way you'll be spending some cash...You should also make sure that the other parts are in working order or else you'll end up spending more money on other parts when instead you could of used that $ to get a new PC.. RE: i need some advice in a good comp.
I think at your level (I assume this is where you're at), it's best to go the in between route.
Making your own computer can sometimes be cheaper, but the misconception is that it's ALWAYS cheaper. It all depends on where you get your stuff at, and Bestbuy/Major PC makers are NOT the way to go about doing it. I recommend going to newegg or something similar (internet sales are generally cheaper, in my experiences), and find a basic computer, up to date in a manner of speaking, with a decent motherboard and CD/DVD drive, soundcard, and network card (these things, unlike GFX cards, last awhile before they're REALLY outdated, so having them new is not a necessity, especially when you're low on $$), then go out and buy, separately unless it's included, a decent Graphics card (at least Nvidea 7000 series, although I prefer ATI over Nvidea for the price/performance ratio), processor (if you don't have at least a Pentium 4 in the PC as it is stock), and RAM (being that most basic PC's come with under 1g). That's what I did, and for under 1000$ I can handle Crysis on Medium to High settings with a decent 20fps framerate (for a game like this, for a price like this, I consider 20fps decent), even though it's a shit game, the graphics lured me in... damn them, waste of 50$. ![]() http://getoutofherestalker.blogspot.com/ |
