Anywayz I've been looking around the web but I can't a definitive answer on this question: Which is better for gaming? Dual or quad? On some sites, it mentions that not even the dual cores are fully utilized let alone quad cores. On the other hand some other sites say it does help indirectly because the unused cores are used by other apps and the OS in the background.

I'm building a new gaming rig and was thinking quad core but want to be 100%!

They are both good. A quad should work for you just fine.

Quad core is by no means bad, but unless you're planning on putting a Space Shuttle in orbit/running Crysis on High, it doesn't serve much of a point, and probably costs a fair bit more.

Quad Core is more of a "My penis is bigger than yours" sort of purchase.

If I had the money (which I DON'T), I'd roll Dual Core, just for games like Age of Conan.
