Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2 [DS]
Gameplay: If you're a fan of Dragon Ball Z, then this DS game is pretty much a must have, especially if you like fighting games. Even if you're not a fan though, it's still a good fighting game. It has multi cart play which means if one of your friend owns the game both of you can battle each other.
However, it doesn't have single cart play which is one of the flaws. It would have been nice to have at least some sort of limited single cart play, even if it only had a couple of characters. Another downside is that there's no WFC play. Which means you can't play people around the world, you can only play locally against another play who owns the game. Some of the good aspects is the wide selection of characters. There's a bunch to choose from, but at first you only have a few. To unlock the rest of the characters you must beat story mode. (You will also unlock characters by beating ??? on all 3 difficulties). The good thing about story mode is that it offers alternate endings for each character depending on what actions you take. It varies from character to character, for some characters you have to wait until a certain time is reached to kill them, or simply defeat them while your health bar is red. You will also unlock specials for your characters after beating certain stages while playing as that character in story mode. And sometimes you'll unlock a character before beating every stage in that particular character's story. As for battles, while having low health seems to be a bad thing, in Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2 it could be a good thing. Once your health is low (in red) and you have over 150 Ki Power you can do your best special. And depending on which direction your standing numerous things can happen depending on your character and what specials you've unlocked. But assuming you pull off the best one, and it doesn't miss, you might have just finished off your opponent and won the match! But at the same time this can work against you. If your opponent has low health, and enough Ki Power they'll be able to use it to their advantage as well so watch out for their special. You can also counter attacks, but I'm not sure if you can counter specials. I personally never tried it.. There's a lot more aspects to cover, but I don't want to bore you :P But I'll sum up the gameplay like this: After pretty much beating the game (I still need to unlock ~3-4 more characters and finish up a few stages) it has some replay value. It's best to probably start again from scratch UNLESS you plan on having wireless battles with a friend as once you've unlocked the best characters, and use them, it becomes rather easy to take down the CPU in Z Battle. I'd suggest choosing the weaker characters and playing the CPU in order to increase the difficulty. Controls: The controls are easy to remember, and after a while it becomes quite easy to do the specials. The touch screen is mainly used to navigate the menus or to do tag team specials which appear on the bottom screen. Graphics: The graphics are fairly good. They aren't outstanding but they are manageable. It's pretty much in 2D and some stages have a tad bit of a 3D feel to them. The characters and effects are all distinguishable. Audio: The sound/music was OK. It's nothing to get excited about. Conclusion: Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2 is currently the only DBZ fighting game available at the moment for the DS and while it lacks WFC/single cart multiplayer it's still worth getting if you're either a fan of the series or looking for a good DS fighting game. And as I previously stated, there's some replay value so after you beat it, you could still have fun playing it again (especially if you have a friend who owns it too). And before I give the rating, I'll take into consideration that it was made back in 2005 when the DS's potential wasn't fully being used IMO. So I'll give it a 6.5/10 Counter Strike 300 Read The Forum Rules Pwnem Veteran <- This explains what it is and how to become one. |
