RE: BioShock PS3
DeathNoteL Wrote:Is Lost Odyssey more of a RTS / RPG, haven't really looked into it, but saw a few screenshots looked kinda like a RTS mixed with RPG elements, and i kinda got a whole hack n slash feel. If so I'll skip that one, I can not stand RTS games, they have never really been interesting to me. bar Pikmin...if you count that as a RTS.. Lost Odyssey isn't an RTS. It doesn't even have any RTS elements. It's just like any other JRPG (lord forbid they ever mix it up), your team lines up, enemies on the other side, you chose your attack, it executes, then wait for your turn again. Quote:ah well, if you hate J-rpgs then I can't really take your opinion of Eternal Sonata since you're gonna be bias, since you hate them and all. You're misreading me, I have no problem with the genre of JRPG's, I simply don't like the what, 80% of them that fall into the same damned story/character set-up like a little eency-weency bit of originality would kill a person. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Lost Odyssey, the older Final Fantasies, these are examples of good JRPGs that actually attempt to break the mold a little. ![]() http://getoutofherestalker.blogspot.com/ |

Turn based battles then? so you like this more than ES because it's adults, not teens? I think originality in J-RPGS comes in the form of how the battle system works.

I've never played JRPGs for the battle-system, for what it's worth, the vast majority of them could be made into direct-to-video movies, and get the job done. Most JRPGs are good for story, the battlesystem is just filler. And again, I've played Eternal Sonata, it isn't some new revolutionary system, it's just as boring as any other system. Star Ocean: TTEOT did something real-time just like Eternal Sonata, and did it better, and without the cutesy looking 1800's looking dresses. All I'm saying is, if cute angst-ridden androgynous metrosexual boys dressed in frilly 1800's clothing are your thing, go for it. I personally wouldn't play it, but that's only because I'd find myself laughing throughout the game. ![]() http://getoutofherestalker.blogspot.com/ |

The Battle system is what drives the player though, I don't play RPGs for the battle System, but without a battle system, RPGs would fail. Direct to video movies would fail with out any battles, hence that crappy Final Fantasy film. SnakeTheFox Wrote:Most JRPGs are good for story, the battlesystem is just filler. But Fun, and again, most players love battling because it drives the player to get his characters stronger than before. If you find the battles boring, and just want a good story, then go read a book. [/quote] Stop taking yourself so seriously, It's meant to be fun, I can understand you might be annoyed that half of the Jrpgs go for that look, but those characters are the ones that have huge fanbases. or are you just scared of Metrosexuals?

DeathNoteL Wrote:SnakeTheFox Wrote:I've never played JRPGs for the battle-system, for what it's worth, the vast majority of them could be made into direct-to-video movies, and get the job done. They haven't made most JRPG's into books yet, so until then, I wont. Also, the first Final Fantasy movie was mediocre, but that was only because it was NOTHING like any of the Final Fantasy games, in storyline. There weren't even any damn Chocobos! However, Advent Children was actually very good, in my opinion. Forgive me if I can't hold up the laughter if I feel like I'm playing a game designed for 8 year olds. Also, why be scared of Meterosexuals? If you'd crack open a dictionary you'd see they're straight men, who just act gay about there looks/how they act. The battlesystem on JRPGs has never been really fun nor particularly interesting, especially considering all JPGs share at least half the combat system traits in common with each other. So without anything truly NEW coming about, yes, it is boring. If it wasn't for the story, JRPGs would have no point at all. Maybe if JRPGs ever tried to mix it up a bit, I'd start to give a damn about the battle system. But from my experience with nearly all US-released JRPGs, none of them really break the mold, nor are they ever particularly challenging. They're all a constant rehash, of the potion swapping, the attack/defense, etc. ![]() http://getoutofherestalker.blogspot.com/ |

Allright you two, settle this and go get a lollipop.
