Battlefield: Bad Company
Just played the Demo off ECKSBAWKS LIVE marketplace.
It's actually not as bad as I would have thought. The gameplay is typical of a Battlefield shooter; legitimate battlefield tactics (cover, suppressive fire, roll importance) are thrown out the window in favor of having the biggest gun and best headshot skills. The Helicopter controls are even WORSE than that of Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, which is amazing, as I didn't think it could get worse unless they mapped the movement keys to the dpad. However I did find it to be an actual IMPROVEMENT, as now you wont see nubes totally dominating the map with a AH-64 Apache because the things are so easy to use (see: Battlefield 2, PC). The demo contains 1 singleplayer mission based in Eastern Europe lasting roughly 10-30 minutes, depending on how you play, and 1 multiplayer map, set in the Middle East, that contains numerous vehicles. To my surprise, they actually mixed it up a bit with the vehicles. HMMVWs carry the newer XM312 instead of the currently equipped M2, the M1A2 Abrams are equipped with TUSK, adding ERA and a remote .50 turret, and the Bradleys are the M2 variant not the Linebacker AA version (although the TOW is unusable, sadly). Even more of a shock, the OP-FOR Russians are actually equipped with more Modern, Realistic slavshit weaponry, not the AK74's and T-72's of every other game. The Russians carry the newer AEK-971, as well as other more modern weapons. The MEC actually get the newer Black Eagle tank, which has yet to be featured in any other game I've seen, as well as the 2T Stalker, a Russian APC/IFV. Gunfaggotry aside, the game isn't exceptional. The controls and movement feel reminiscent of BF2:MC, as though all the ground is ice, and your shoes are lubed, you slide and glide across the ground before ever coming to a complete stop. Also common in Battlefield games, the weapons are hideously unbalanced. I have yet to find a substantial counter against the MEC Sniper. The rifle is dead accurate, the Pistol kills in two hits (in contrast to 20+ from an M249), and the upgrade that gives the Sniper a lock-on laser designator that can destroy vehicles if it holds a steady lock for 10 seconds (some may remember this from BF2:MC, however it now isn't limited to Choppers), make the Sniper class a f**king beast. They can handle Long-range anti infantry, short range anti infantry, and any range AA and AT. Fuckshitjesus, it needs a nerf, especially when the MEC pistol can kill in 2 hits, while an M249/M416 takes 20+ bullets. But so far I've been avoiding what is supposed to be the real draw of this installation; the destructible environments. Let me start off by saying, I just had to change my pants, because reminding myself of the destructibility made mye cum twice, sticking my underwear to the side of my leg like honey to a shirt sleeve. All the buildings can have holes punched in them, trees topple and sway at the whim of bullets, and craters riddle streets and fields, actually providing cover for infantry and causing tank treads to sink down into them. Holy balls, it's almost too much. Not since Red Faction have I seen a perfectly pristine map turn into such a hellhole in a matter of minutes. In games like CoD4, as soon as you spawn, holes are already pre-made, and the environment is already a warzone. In Battlefield Bad Company, you could have a tea party with your sister on these maps, they start out so fresh and untouched, and within minutes of Artillery shells, tank rounds, and frag grenades, the whole place looks like something out of a Mad Max movie. While I was planing on boycotting the game upon hearing of the Downloadable weapons (no Drizzt, I heard about it before you told us, don't take credit) that had to be bought. However that myth was recently dispelled, as all the gold weapons can be unlocked at level 25, basically nullifying the use of the "Gold Edition" to little more than a purchasable cheat. Not to mention the best gun in the game, the M16, can be unlocked at level 1, regardless of what pack you buy. All in all, the pros outweigh the cons. The game is a steady 7/10, with the only flaws being the controls and the imbalance of weapons (the latter likely being fixed after hordes of 12 year olds bitch on the public forums), and the pros being the amazing graphics, fairly good gameplay, killer weapons, and stellar environments (that go from peaceful to "HOLY BALLSHITS THAT TREE NEARLY FELL ON ME, HOLY F*CK WHERE DID THAT HOUSE GO, SHIT! *Ducks in crater made by artillery barrage*". However this is based solely on the Demo, so hold you breath, you know EA... they're bound to f**k something up pre-release. tl;dr good game, has flaws, rent it or buy it, your choice. ![]() http://getoutofherestalker.blogspot.com/ |

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company
I played the demo last night.
Yeah the destructible environment is one of the great aspects of it. Didn't see anything too intense as I was rather sleepy and after about 15 minutes or so I quit playing. I'll probably give it another go today to explore it more. Overall it does look promising, however it has Quake Wars to compete with.. Counter Strike 300 Read The Forum Rules Pwnem Veteran <- This explains what it is and how to become one. |

GaMeR Wrote:I played the demo last night. I played the Quake Wars demo yesterday. It was god awful. You run at like 40+ mph, and the lag is incredible. Plus, 16 people < 24 people. Not only that, the vehicles in Quake Wars controlled like shit, the singleplayer is basically Star Wars Battlefront 1 quality, and the controls are horrible. Not to mention the graphics look like a PS2 game. I actually hear that the PC version was much better, but Bad Company isn't on PC, so they're not really competing in my mind. Battlefield: Bad Company beats ET: Quake Wars on Console hundredfold. ![]() http://getoutofherestalker.blogspot.com/ |

Deadpool Wrote:Yes, I will listen to a snake. EA has destroyed every franchise it touched. They raped Command and Conquer after Westwood lost the franchise, they nickel and dime you every chance they get (Buyable cars on marketplace in NFS, the "Gold Edition" of BF:BC gives you new weapons outfront, without having to beat the game to unlock them), they put ads up all over in there games, including "Axe Shower Gel" ads in Battlefield 2142... I mean, just GOOGLE. You'll find hundreds, and I mean hundreds, of examples for why EA is a scourge to the gaming world. Just so ya know, Deadpool isn't a much more trusted character then... hell, I'd call him a snake. A funny snake, but a snake.
