RE: The Best Games Based On Genre

I just thought of another good game right now, for the puzzle genre: Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo

There's a similar game to this out right now for the DS, in Ultimate Mortal Kombat, there's a puzzle game inside. It's quite similar to the SPFII Turbo, however the MK version is not as good. Still, it's a decent adaptation, and it does have better graphics. But in the end, it's all about the gameplay :)

RE: The Best Games Based On Genre

i think im not only gonna tell the best but im gonna tell why.

fps - perfect dark (for n64) not only was it an upgraded version of golden eye but it was just plain better. looked better, felt better, played better. It is one of my top 5 most difficult games to this day (on perfect mode) which i love because my fav thing about games is when they are a challenge. It was very innovative for an fps what with the challenges and training sims you had to go through, plus the possibilities of custom options are endless. pd ftw

fighting - Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. It built onto the 3rd game with new characters, new stages, new combos... all kinds of stuff. and it was more than just a button mashing fighter, you had to be patient and have skill while defending along with being aggressive and pulling off some sweet combos.

strategy - i would have to say Star Flight, ive played alot of strategy games in my time and nothing compared to the shock and aw i felt when i played Star Flight. A game on genesis where you could customize your own space ship along with name your crew and picking races and stats. plus a HUGE game and is different everytime you play it. if you havnt played this game then i suggest you find a copy cause it is an experience in its own.

puzzle - now alot of ppl wouldnt agree with me when i call Oddworld a puzzle game but i believe it is... its the whole basis of the game (playstation versions). a puzzle game with no score, unlimited number of lives and just straight up madness. my brain was hurting after beating these two games for the first time, and most importantly... ITS A CHALLENGE!

atm i cant really think of any but dont worry i will get back to you on this thread.

I think Tekken and those other games you mentioned would fall more into the "Fighting" genre rather than "Beat'em up". A game like Streets of Rage would more accurately portray "Beat'em up" IMO.

Regardless, those titles are awesome.

I like it for the same reason I like Tabletop RPGs, it's essentially a create your own story, since the characters are blank slates and it is a ROLE playing game, you really make up how your characters act ( a bit like deciding how Link would talk)... in all honesty, I prefer seeing my calm faced, normal hair style-d and logically dressed sprites over Bishonen flood in near enough every other Final Fantasy =P

RE: The Best Games Based On Genre

Yeah it's much better playing RPGs in which you're the one making the story, not following one. That's probably why games like Morrowind were such a success.
