According to an ESA study 40 percent of US gamers are women which is a lot higher than what I thought.

I also found this snippet of the article below rather shocking as well:

However, it doesn't really specify what the ESA considers is a gamer. Perhaps they count casual PC game players (Minesweeper, flash games and so on). So don't expect all those chicks on RuneScape to be real as it might just be your next door neighbor desperate for some gold.

Very interesting percentage there. I am guessing that may be up slightly due to women playing the Wii. But I think a pretty good majority would be young girls playing the diva type games. But I know plenty of people like my sister in their mid 20's that are addicted to playing them. How I would love to face my sis one on one in brawl.

Not to mention all of those Life sim games, like that "Second Life" thing, it's apparently considered as a game.

Oh yes. Most of them are those preppy I want to be like barbie girls.

Lady gamers are cool. Especially ones that like the fun games... like Timesplitters and Halo.

My ex girlfriend was seriously into her games, we went to the Game On festival in London for our first date, it was rather good fun!

This doesn't surprise me one bit, I'm sure most women now own a Wii or a few games for a PC, rather than an XBox or PS3 though.
